Legendary Mud Puds

New mud puds appear each day, with heroic feats and tremendous efforts that are as valuable today as the Wright Brothers’ flying and Gandhi’s peaceful protest. The list of Legendary Mud Puds will never be complete, because each day presents new challenges. With every obstacle, a leader emerges to overcome it. Records are broken, treasures are found, and lives are changed. Our Legendary Mud Puds are grouped into four collections of people: Visionary Artists, Athletic Underdogs, Pioneering Thinkers, and Unlikely Heroes. Visionary Artists

Visionary Artists sometimes see what has never existed and then strive to bring that vision to life. These artists, ahead of their time, bring foresight and imagination to the canvas, or other medium, with techniques, compositions, or subject matter that is entirely new. In a broad sense, the term, “visionary,” would encompass prophets and other spiritual figures as well as technological wizards, such as Steve Jobs and other pioneers of personal computing. Here, however, we are strictly concerned with the artists.

Athletic Underdogs

Athletic Underdogs are popularly expected to lose. They face competition with a disadvantage, since the the party expected to win is generally favored by the majority. Athletes are some of the most widely recognized people in the world, and prominent sports figures from Muhammad Ali to Wayne Gretzky, are seen as troopers, warriors, and heroes to some. The David and Goliath stories of yesterday are equally exciting today, and they are commonly seen in sports.

Pioneering Thinkers

Pioneering Thinkers are innovators; they discover new territory with a commitment to a subject of interest and a thirst for curiosity. These scientists and adventurers may open up new areas of research or explore previously uncharted territory. Not only do these legendary mud puds deserve recognition for their individual pursuit of knowledge, but even more so for sharing that wisdom for the benefit of others.

Unlikely Heroes

Unlikely Heroes are ordinary people who carry out extraordinary deeds for the benefit of other people. Often through acts of self-sacrifice, these “rebels with causes” work to resolve some form of injustice by introducing radically new or innovative ideas that oppose the established procedures and principles. Unlikely heroes include political and social revolutionaries who support or engage in defiant action, hoping to bring about change.
